Saint Charles Borromeo, the only Catholic school in Charlotte County, was
established in 1960. The school serves grades Pre-Kindergarten through Eight with a
strong emphasis on its Catholic identity as students prepare school liturgies each
week supported by the school choir. There is a strong academic program and
direction to the future with technology. All students enjoy a 35 seat computer lab, 35
unit mobile laptop cart, and a 32 unit Neo 2 mobile lab. All classrooms have an LCD
projector and interactive white board and/or interactive touch pad. Students learn to
use real world programs such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite 3. There
is also a natural science laboratory, which is receiving recognition as being
outstanding at the elementary/middle level. Cultural emphasis within the academic
program is displayed through the inclusion of a foreign language, Spanish, in order
to prepare the students for further studying in high school and beyond. Another
innovation to the general program has been the introduction of Honors English in
addition to the Algebra I program in the eighth grade in order to give students an
advanced standing when entering high school. The Accelerated Reader program
continues to grow with the many new books added to the collection as students are
opened to many new genres in reading through our newly built media center. Focus
is also given to sports with a program that includes soccer, volleyball, flag football,
track, tennis and basketball with both boys and girls teams. These teams compete
with other Catholic as well as private schools around the Southwest Florida area.
Many student activities are led by the Student Government while service projects to
both school and community are performed by all students. St. Charles Borromeo
strives to remember the past, live in the present, but to always look to the future,
keeping in mind its Catholic foundation. The success and coordination of the total
school program will be accomplished through the support and effort of the Reverend
Thomas Heck, Administrator of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, the school
administration and staff, School Board members, Parent-Teacher Organization
officers, our dedicated parents and guardians and the pastors of all area churches.
