St. Charles Borromeo has been a part of my life since 1963 when my family and I moved to Port Charlotte from a small town near Springfield, Illinois and joined the parish.  August of 1972 was an extremely busy one for me.  During that month, I graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, was married to my husband, Chris (here at St. Charles Church…it was on the corner of Easy Street then), and began my teaching ministry at St. Charles Borromeo School.

During my tenure at SCB I have taught grades 3-8,  Chapter I reading and math, acted as testing and master in-service coordinator, PTO president, received a Masters of Arts in Pastoral Theology, taught grades 4-8  religion, worked on various Diocesan Curriculum committees and  acted as Interim Principal. Presently I teach Religion 6, 7, and 8 and Language Arts 6, and I am the testing coordinator and Assistant Principal.

I have had many significant and wonderful things happen during my life, but for me the most important was when God blessed my husband and me with our son, Christopher, and most recently with our daughter-in-law, Mary.  They bring much joy into our lives, and we are very proud of them.

Being a part of SCB has been a privilege and honor for me.  I view my teaching as a calling and a commitment.  It is more than facilitating the learning of academics; it is sharing our Catholic Christian faith with our students.  In doing so it allows me to see God from their vista, and I learn so much from them.

One of the greatest gifts I have received at SCB is having the privilege of teaching the children of my former SCB students.  I hope to spend many more years sharing and learning with the parents, students, faculty and staff of SCB.

God bless,
Mrs. Beverly D. Hencher
