The heart of the resource program at St. Charles Borromeo
School is the diocesan based Dreams Are Free program. This non-
labeling identification program is a collaborative consultative model
that encourages and forms alliances among parents, teachers, and
students. This partnership promotes the understanding of each
student’s strengths and weaknesses. Together, learning strategies,
accommodations, and modifications, when necessary, are provided
through a learning support contract.
This contract is set up early and reviewed quarterly for the
students in the Dreams Are Free program. Together with the
resource leader, classroom teachers identify students who require
remediation and design programs to meet these needs.
Accommodations and modifications are determined and provided by
the classroom and resource teachers.
The Dreams Are Free resource program provides academic
support and specific training in study, organizational, social, and test-
taking skills. When taught in the regular classrooms, these strategies
benefit all students. A consultant component is provided quarterly
through the diocesan support staff of the Dreams Are Free program.
