Welcome to Second Grade! My name is Cathy Coomes, and I have the pleasure to teach Second Grade at St. Charles. This is my fourth year as a teacher at St. Charles Borromeo. I graduated from college with a double major in English and Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology. After college I taught Second Grade in a public school in the metro Atlanta area. Shortly after that, my husband and I moved to Kentucky. I taught at a private school in Louisville for four years. My position was as the Gifted/Learning Difficulties Teacher for the Intermediate Grades (Fifth and Sixth). I also taught Middle School Mathematics, Algebra and Reading/Literature. After our son was born, I was able to stay home and be Mom. When he began Pre-school, so did I! I taught 4-year old Pre-Kindergarten for 1 ½ years. At that time, we moved to sunny Florida and joined the St. Charles family.
Second Grade is such a wonderful year! The children learn how to become independent and responsible learners. They explore their world through literature, science, social studies and math. Most importantly, we continue on our faith journey. In Second Grade we focus on serving others with love and finding God in all aspects of our lives. As we prepare for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Eucharist, the children grow closer to God and begin to truly understand His love for all of us. I cannot think of a better way to spend my days!
